For individuals and families in most South Dakota counties, Wellmark offers their Blue Select PPO plan. Customers on this PPO (preferred provider organization) plan are free to choose whatever physician they like, but benefits are highest when they see physicians from within Wellmark's provider network. Here are some details of plans available to individuals and families from Wellmark BCBS South Dakota:

* Blue Select 500 - This plan carries a low deductible of $500 ($1,500 for a family). Coinsurance costs are 10% for in-network physicians and 20% out-of-network. Most visits carry a low co-pay of $10. Benefits include major medical as well as specialist visits, diagnostic services, maternity care, alternative therapies and prescription drug coverage.

* Blue Select 1000 - This plan carries a deductible of $1,000 ($3,000 for a family). Coinsurance costs are 15% in-network, 25% out-of-network. Co-pays are a low $15 for most visits. Benefits are similar to Blue Select 500.

* Blue Select 5000 - This plan carries a deductible of $5,000 ($15,000 for a family). Coinsurance costs are 20% in-network, 40% out-of-network. Co-pays are $20 for most visits. Benefits are similar to the other Blue Select Plans.

Other Plan Options from Wellmark BCBS South Dakota

For customers who choose the high-deductible plan options, Alliance offers the financial control of a health savings account (HSA). HSAs are government-sponsored, tax-exempt savings accounts specifically for the purpose of paying health insurance deductibles.
