Individuals and families in Iowa can take advantage of Wellmark's extensive PPO (preferred provider organization) network for reduced cost health care. Members of the PPO plan are free to see any physician they like, but receive the highest level of coverage when they visit in-network physicians. Here are some details of some of the plans available from Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for individuals and families:

* Alliance Select Essential Plan - This low premium plan carries a deductible of $1,500. In-network coinsurance costs are 20%, after a $30 copay for most services. Benefits include regular physician visits, specialist care, inpatient and outpatient services, emergency care, diagnostic care, maternity care and prescription drugs.

* Alliance Select Enhanced Plan - This plan carries a range of deductible options, from $600 to $4,200. Coinsurance costs are 20% for in-network physicians, 40% for out-of-network coverage. There are no copayments on this plan. Benefits are identical to Alliance select Essential.

* Alliance Select Comprehensive Plan - Deductibles on this plan range from $300 to $1,700. Coinsurance costs are a low 10% in network, 30% out of network. There are no copays on this plan, and the same great benefits as the other Alliance Select Plans.

Other Plan Options from Wellmark BCBS Iowa

For customers who choose the high-deductible plan options, Alliance offers the financial control of a health savings account (HSA). HSAs are government-sponsored, tax-exempt savings accounts specifically for the purpose of paying health insurance deductibles. Withdrawals from HSAs for meeting deductible costs are not subject to capital gains tax.
