Started in 1981 by a group of small-business owners, the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) is the largest group representing the interests of the self-employed and micro business (10 or fewer employees) owner in the U.S. The mission of the NASE is to bring the type of market benefits traditionally available only to large businesses to the self-employed. Working on a not-for-profit basis, the NASE has worked on legislative as well as market advances for self-employed individuals and small business owners.
Recognizing that lack of health coverage is one of the biggest problems facing self-employed individuals, the NASE has worked to create affordable coverage for its members. Its solution to this problem is their Association Advantage Card Plan. Though not a traditional insurance policy, membership in this plan gives you discounts on a variety of health services, including regular physician visits, dental care and prescription drugs. The plan currently offers no hospitalization coverage. At participating providers, simply presenting your card brings you immediate savings on health care costs.
