Cross Blue Shield is a member of the Blue Cross
and Blue Shield Association serving 29 counties of western
Pennsylvania.
Their commitment to providing quality
health care doesn’t stop at the hospital or doctor’s
office. It extends beyond. Their concern for their customers
is evident in their implementation of Blues on Call™,
a 24-hour resource of registered nurses to address any
health questions you may have, a self-service reference
library of health and wellness information, and various
other programs.
Special Care is a low-cost
plan designed for families who earn too much to qualify
for Medical Assistance and do not have group health
insurance. Your family income cannot exceed 185% of
the Federal Poverty Guidelines and you must reside in
one of the 29 counties of western Pennsylvania. This
coverage includes 21 hospital days, preventive medical
care, prescription drug benefits, and 24-hour Blues
On Call™ healthcare assistance.
DirectBlue is an individual
preferred-provider program. You may choose to seek in
or out-of-network providers, and are not required to
choose a Primary Care Physician. This plan covers doctor
visits, hospital, diagnostic tests, surgery, emergency
care, prescription drug benefits, and preventive care.
You are even covered when you travel. There is no physical
examination to apply.
PreferredBlue utilizes
the Keystone Health Plan West network of doctors. Members
have access to any network or out-of-network service
providers. This service covers office visits, hospital,
diagnostic tests, surgery, emergency care, therapies,
and offers prescription drug benefits.
PPOBlue High-Deductible Program
combines a high deductible health plan with a health
savings account (HSA). The high deductible equals lower
premiums to pay, and the tax-advantaged account allows
for significant tax savings.
KeystoneBlue HMO is a
health maintenance organization where each member chooses
a Primary Care Physician (PCP) in the network. Members
are required to get preventive care from their PCP,
but they are free to go directly to network specialists
for other services.
CHIP (Children’s
Health Insurance Program of Pennsylvania) provides free
and low-cost comprehensive healthcare to 49 counties
in western and central Pennsylvania. It offers free
coverage to families whose income is at or below 200
percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG). For
those between 200-235 percent of the FPG, the program
is offered at low cost. The program covers doctor office
visits, immunizations, diagnostic testing, dental care,
vision care, etc.
