The percentage of people with employment-based health insurance dropped from 70 percent in 1987 to 61 percent in 2004. This is the lowest level of employment-based insurance coverage in more than a decade.
Discount
Plans
Be the smart shopper when it comes to
great sounding discount health plans you might overhear
on the radio, see on a billboard, or even get through
your email account. Most are not quite what they seem.
In fact, many are deceptive and misleading to those
that are in desperate need of appropriate health care.
Everyone Qualifies—No One Denied!
Pre-existing Conditions Accepted!
Covers Prescriptions, Dental and Vision
ONLY $19.95 A MONTH!
Professionals warn the public—this
is not health insurance but merely a discount card,
as you might normally use at your local grocery store
or pharmacy. What sounds too good to be true is probably
just that.
Discount plans often offer discounted
services for a monthly fee, but many require hidden
non-refundable fees that must be paid to enroll, require
a credit card or banking account number, and some even
require prepaid hospital care. Many companies have been
accused of withdrawing money from accounts before the
consumer has even agreed to purchase the plan. Individuals
who have signed up under discount plans often end up
paying more per month or per year than they save in
the discounts received. Also realize that many more
reputable pharmacies and physicians will not consider
discount plans.
The unfortunate realization of discount
plans is that they appeal to low-income families or
minorities that are quite often already in a financial
lull. These plans only take advantage of those most
desperate to have access to health insurance and are
not educated enough to see that most discount plans
are scams. If an individual has found a discount plan
that seems reputable and trustworthy, they may check
the status through the HMO line, (888) HMO-2219. Take
the time to be cautious with your medical spending.
Always investigate promises that seem unrealistic—low
cost per month for the whole family, no deductibles
or co-pays, etc.
