Protect Your Smile with Dental Coverage
Your dental health is important. But do you find every excuse possible to put off a trip to the dentist?
If you’re like a lot of Americans, it’s not the check-up itself you fear but the bill that follows—especially if you end up needing to have more work done. What if—on the other hand—you knew that not only your check-up would be covered, but a good portion of any additional work as well? That’s the comfort dental insurance offers.
Did you know that most dental disease is preventable? This means that with regular check-ups and cleanings, you keep an attractive, healthy smile.
It also means that regular preventive dental care is as important for a college student as it is for a senior citizen.
Ironically, putting off a visit to your dentist not only can harm your teeth, it ends up costing you more in the long run. If you get regular check-ups, you may never need to have complicated and expensive procedures at all. In the 1980s, Americans saved nearly $100 billion in dental costs simply by placing an emphasis on regular check-ups.

What’s more, the cost of insurance won’t break your budget. According to the National Association of Dental Plans, monthly premiums average between $12 to $50 per person. Dental coverage can also often be obtained, at a savings, as an add-on to your existing health insurance plan.
What is covered? Plans vary so it’s important to choose yours carefully. Most plans, however, cover preventive care, certain diagnostic services, and emergency treatment. This includes regular check-ups, cleanings, and x-rays. While regular care decreases your chance of disease, sometimes treatment is needed. Most plans cover 70 to 80-perecent of such possible procedures as oral surgery or fillings.
For all of these reasons, an increasing number of Americans are choosing to plan ahead by maintaining dental coverage. More than 48 percent of us (that’s 113 million), according to the California Dental Association, now have dental insurance. Back in 1970, the number was just 12 million!
Perhaps the most important news of all is that, as a result of regular care and preventive measures encouraged by dental insurance plans, dental decay has declined sharply in the past 20 years. And that means a lot more healthy, happy smiles.
