Traveling the rural roads of New Mexico, The Care Van, a state funded 29-foot medical office on wheels, offers poor residents of New Mexico a glimpse into the generous nature of Blue Cross Blue Shield on a daily basis. The company implemented the Barbara Richardson "Para Tu Salud" program in January 2006 to help improve health for New Mexico residents. Similar to a Book-Mobile, the Care Van contains an exam table, dentist chair and satellite for Internet access. It travels in rural communities, and offers poor residents childhood immunizations, well-child assessments, checkups and dental screenings.

BCBS of New Mexico also offers families of all economic backgrounds plenty of options when it comes to keeping their loved ones healthy. Their coverage plans vary in deductible and premium. Plans currently offered include:
BlueChoice: Two options for coverage. Maternity is not covered, but hospitalization, well-visits and other preventive care, and physician's visits are covered with no maximum benefit. Family deductible is three times that of the individual amount. This plan includes a prescription drug plan rider, dental accident coverage and vision/hearing screenings.
BlueChoice Plus: This plan covers most medical costs with 20% co-insurance after a deductible is met. Hospital and E.R. services are covered, well-child visits for immunizations, vision and hearing up to age 17 are covered 100% for the first $400. Additional rider for prescription drug coverage is available, and dental coverage for accidents is also covered.
