Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana families hard both physically and economically. The storm also left many second-guessing decisions they had made years before; some, who had been given access to a low-cost health insurance policy and didn't sign up, walked alongside those who were economically disadvantaged and without insurance options at all. Blue Cross/Blue Shield Louisiana, which holds a large presence in the state, helped those displaced by the hurricane through its disaster relief foundation. Since then, they have continued to reveal their presence in other ways. Nine out of every ten doctors in Louisiana is part of the Blue Cross Network, providing services such as the VIP (variable income plan) to supplement hospital in-patient coverage, and Smart Bodies, a wellness program established for current carriers of the insurance.
BCBS Louisiana offers families plenty
of options when it comes to keeping their loved ones
healthy. Their coverage plans vary in deductible and
premium costs, leaving no one out of the mix. Plans
currently offered to families include:
Blue Max: Family deductible
levels range from $100-5000; the plan focuses on preventive
and hospital care. There are five prescription co-pay
levels after the $750 deductible. Pregnancy coverage
is also available.
Blue Value: This plan
is the minimum available for Louisiana families. There
is a wide range of deductibles for the catastrophic
coverage, but no preventive, prescription or pregnancy
coverage is currently offered.
Blue Select: This plan offers families basic catastrophic coverage as well as prescription, preventive and wellness service.
Additional Health Insurance Options from BCBS Louisiana (LA)
Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana also offers a consumer-driven option through its Blue Saver HSA plan. This plan offers a 100% generic prescription plan, an 80/20 plan with hospitalization and catastrophic injury coverage, as well as two deductible options, $3450 and $5050. Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana offers their members a variety of plans and options to fulfill their insurance needs. Perhaps this is why they have received consistently positive ratings from Standard & Poor.
