On November 30, 2004, Anthem, Inc. merged with WellPoint Health Networks, Incorporated. This combination has resulted in many changes, but none that affected the quality of care and programs offered by either insurance company. Families are perhaps the biggest beneficiaries of the WellPoint and Anthem convergence. The companies serve almost 3 million Virginians, offering families plenty of options when it comes to keeping their loved ones healthy. Coverage plans vary in premium/deductible options, invariably including optional family programs. Plans currently offered to families include:
Anthem BCBS Virginia (VA) Health Insurance Options
Individual Key Care Preferred: Family deductibles range between $300 and $5000. They offer a fixed co-pay and a co-insurance of 20%. Maternity, supplemental accident and dental riders are available, and their prescription card requires no deductible. In addition, wellness and prevention care for children is included in the plan.
Basic Keycare: The only variation between this plan and the Key Care Preferred is the presence of a prescription deductible.
Individual Essential Keycare: The co-insurance for this plan is 30%, and their deductible options have a smaller range than the other plans ($500-$2500.) Also different from the other plans is the optional child wellness and prevention coverage. Prescriptions carry a deductible.
Individual Basic BlueCare: a non-network plan, enrollees can choose any doctor. Maternity, supplemental accident and dental riders are available, and prescription coverage requires a separate deductible.
Virginia Advantage: Identical to the Basic Blue Care non-network plan, except for the no-deductible policy regarding prescription benefits.
