When Anthem acquired Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1999, subscribers of both insurance companies were already accustomed to good customer service. Although this still remains the case, the face of insurance has changed with the advent of consumer-driven health plans such as the Health Savings Account, which give members more control over how their contribution is applied. Until needed, members deposit funds into a tax-advantaged savings account which can then be used as need be for medical costs. Other insurance changes have occured, one in particular hitting at home base. On November 30, 2004, Anthem, Inc. merged with WellPoint Health Networks, Incorporated.
Families are perhaps the biggest beneficiaries of the WellPoint and Anthem combination. Nowhere is this more apparent than Nevada, where a spin of the roulette wheel could change the health and future of a family. Fortunately, BCBS of Nevada offers families plenty of options when it comes to keeping their loved ones healthy. These coverage plans vary in deductible and premium costs, increasing the odds that parents will find a plan that works for their family. Plans currently offered to families include:
Blue Preferred PPO: This plan boasts many conveniences, including urgent/after-hours care, membership in the BlueCard program (which allows access to nationwide coverage when traveling), vision benefits and prescription drug coverage. In addition, this plan pays for occupational and speech therapy, dental care caused by an accident, and second surgical opinions.
Health Savings Account: This consumer-driven HSA plan offers the same coverage as the PPO plan. Money for this plan is kept in a tax-reduced account that can be drawn upon when needed.
