When Anthem acquired Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1999, subscribers of both insurance companies were already accustomed to good customer service. Although this still remains the case, the face of insurance has changed with the advent of consumer-driven health plans such as the Health Savings Account, which provides members with more control over how their contribution is applied. Other insurance changes have occured, one in particular hitting at home base. On November 30, 2004, Anthem, Inc. merged with WellPoint Health Networks, Incorporated. At the end of 2005, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado had 460,000 subscribers.

You can choose your own doctor, but you will have to pay more for doctors who are outside of the network. Included in the plan is inpatient and outpatient care, emergency care, vision and dental coverage, and behavioral or mental health care. This plan includes an additional $500 Accident Benefit.
Colorado HSA-qualified High Deductible PPO:
You are free to choose your co-insurance amount (between 0-20%). Although this plan does not offer vision coverage, the flexibility and freedom of choice afforded can more than compensate for this lack of vision coverage.
In addition to providing families with a varied set of health insurance options, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado also considers the elderly members of the family with its Medicare Part D prescription coverage and Supplement Plans. Perhaps this is why Anthem consistently sees higher insurance carrier ratings than many other companies.
