Aetna Dental
Insurance Plans
Aetna’s dental plans serve over
12 million customers with a variety of products and
plans. The range of products available varies from state
to state, but in most states there are plans available
which allow customers to see any licensed dentist, whether
or not they are on a provider list.
Some plans, such
as the Dental Maintenance Organization (DMO®)
which is designed to maximize benefits and services
available to the customer, require the customer to choose
a primary care dentist from Aetna’s provider list.
Their Freedom of Choice with PPO plan allows the customer
to switch between a DMO plan, where they see only a
primary care dentist, to a PPO, where the customer can
choose any dentist from their provider list should a
special need arise.
Many of Aetna’s products are available
only through an employer. However, they offer one unique
product directly to individuals and families: Vital
Savings by Aetna. Vital savings is not an insurance
plan, but instead works like a discount card allowing
the customer to receive discounted rates on services
and prescriptions. Because it is not an insurance plan,
Vital Savings carries fewer membership conditions, such
as pre-existing condition exclusions or referrals to
see specialists.
